Gadget - in 1851 he's at the same address as 1861 (Charles Street, St Pancras) and with the same occupation, so the James and Hannah you've found are not the same people.

I did wonder if it was a coincidence, which was why I made the comment

Strange that they are both of the same age with wives of same name and age and they look as if they both came from  the same county  ::)

PS - your 1851 one looks like Huntford on the image (but possibly Hertford) - no county!  In 1841 they're also in Charles Street - HO107/684/2/40/74

For what it's worth, as they're not yours, the entry is

Herts, Sawbridge

There is a place named Sawbridgeworth in Hertfordshire  ( http://joinermarriageindex.co.uk/pjoiner/genuki/HRT/Sawbridgeworth/index.html   )and, if you cf the first letters of Shoemaker and Sawbridge, they are the same   ;D
