Thomas Byrne, any information.
« on: Saturday 26 July 14 04:49 BST (UK) »
We are looking for any information at all on Thomas Byrne b. 31st Dec 1918 in Birkenhead - Cheshire, entered the Royal Navy as a 2nd class Stoker C/KX100081 on the 27th Nov 1939 - Chatham, became 1st class Stoker on the 21st Oct 1940, was sent on leave from Rossneath on the 11th Dec 1945, and finally released from the Navy on the 5th Feb 1946.
His home address had been Wood Street - Birkenhead - Cheshire right through his service and we believe up to and around 1953 - 1955, this date is when there appeared to be an argument between Thomas and his brother John R. Byrne, about what it isn't known, but that's the last time anyone ever saw Thomas, so with being in the RN we have assumed (rightly or wrongly) that he boarded a ship/went back into service/or joined the Merchant Navy, we don't know, but in one of his letters to his sister and mother during the war, that he really seemed to like America.
As far as we know, he never married in England, well, Birkenhead at least :)
Another point is that he had worked for the London, Midland and Scottish Railway Co. before enlisting, and had a letter to produce if he wanted to return to that trade after the war, so maybe he went working on the Railway somewhere abroad like U.S.A. or Australia
We know it's a long shot, but hopefully someone will read this and remember/recognize his details.
Here's hoping,
Barry T & Ray Byrne.
