George Gornell born in Broughton, Wigan, Durham abt 1840

My g g grandfather was called George Gornell. On my g grandmothers marriage cert her name was Margaret Ann Gornell born in Brandon Durham in 1865 - 1930.

Her mother was Mary Ann Crozier married William Jordan in 1855.
Then she seems to leave William and is with George Gornall.

 On  the 1871 census he is born in Broughton,
On  the 1881 census he is born in Wigan

On  the 1891 census he is born in Durham.

The family have always been told that George came from Cornwall.

Can you give the census ref. no. for 1871 & 91 as I can only see them in 1881.
OK found him under Gornall.

Freebmd has a couple of George Gornalls registered in 1840 who could be him. One in Bolton and one in Chorley.

His birth seems to range from 1833-40 so you can add a couple more to the list.
There's a death registered in Durham in 1906 giving a birth year of 1837.
Pretty hopeless without a marriage.

I've been looking at Broughton because I would think only someone living in that area would know of it.
That doesn't mean it's any more accurate than the others.

There's a Broughton just north of Preston & another in Salford, Wigan is about half way between.
There's also a Great Broughton on the outskirts of the North Yorks. moors, Durham is about 40mls. north.
Lots of Gornalls baptised in Preston but no George.
