There was another Jane baptised with Robert in 1836 - I think she was born 1833?

Beg your pardon, I didn't see her in the list  ::)

Jim, do you think that George GORNALL could have changed his Christian name. He seems a bit of a fly by night as when he arrived in Durham he was a wagoner and then a publican......

I sat with a very elderly aunt Nellie Adams, b 1889 Durham  Piece:   4682  Folio:   37. Page Number 2

George GORNALL was her grandfather and her mother was Mary Jane GORNALL.  She told me that George GORNALL was from Cornwall and he came to Durham as he was a tin miner and the mining was dwindling in Cornwall. I think that this George GORNALL is a bit of a chancer.

I really appreciate all the help you're giving me, thank you so much. Anatig

I can't find any Gornalls claiming to be born in Cornwall.
FreeBMD only has 1, Samuel b.1838.
His possible marriage in 1866 looks the way to go.

No Jim, me neither. I think George was a bit of a dreamer. That's why I think he's changed his Christian name. Anatig

I can't see a marriage registration for George & Mary so the only alternative is the Gateshead PR's.

Jim,

I gave the registration details in reply #16

Gateshead  December 1866 volume 10a page 845

Just one thing to add to the mix:
When Margaret and Jane are living in Yarm in 1861, that is Stockton registration district. In 1901 he says he is born Stockton!

I'm not at all sure whether William and Margaret are connected to George. Her death registration has her as Gorner, I think.
I can't see her or Jane in 1851 or 1841.
The baptisms have an address of Sykes Row, Leeds. In 1841 there only seems to be Sykes Yard and Street - I think. I was looking earlier that's why I keep saying 'I think'.
William in the baptisms is an Engineer or an engine maker.

1841  piece 1259  folio 7   page 6  Thornaby

has a William Gornall 45 yrs Engine Builder not born in county living alone in Bridge Street Thornaby.  (Stockton registration district)

all very frustrating  :)

added: reading over this again - it is the Wardle/Gorner connection isn't it  :)
