George Everett & Agnes Greenacre, missing in the 1901 Census?!
« on: Sunday 27 July 14 11:39 BST (UK) »
Hi Everyone,

I am relatively new to researching my family history and have unfortunately hit a brick wall fairly early on and hoping someone can lend a hand!

I began browsing Census records to confirm information I already knew, it was noticed that on the 1911 Census my great-grandfather George Everett (b. Brightlingsea, 1877) was living with his wife Beatrice Everett (nee. Deer, b.1887) in Prittlewell, Southend-On-Sea. Their two children Leslie (c.1909) and Winifred (b.1910), my great uncle and aunt, are also living with them, as well as his two children George (b. Southend, 1899) and Nellie (b. Southend, 1904), who none of the family knew existed until now. I ordered Nellie's birth certificate, which shows her mother as Agnes Everett (nee. Greenacre). I found a marriage record for George Everett and Agnes Greenacre towards the end of 1898. I also found a death record for Agnes Everett, and ordered the death certificate to find out her date of death (January 1906). George remarried in 1909 to Beatrice, and the rest, as they say, is history!

I am stumped as to why I can find no further information about George (b.1899) or Nellie, after the 1911 Census. No death record, no marriage record, nothing. Similarly, can find no information about George, Agnes and baby George in the 1901 Census. Or indeed any information about Agnes, except in the 1891 Census when she was a servant in Suffolk.  ???

Any help would be greatly appreciated!  :)

Have you tried Free BMD?
It is ofter harder to find recent information than info from the 1800's
Might he have been in WW1?

Welcome from me too.

Was George registered as George Frederic Everett, Dec qtr 1899 Rochford? It is the right district for Southend at that time.

Identifying full names is always important if you are trying to trace people in later records.

His middle name does seem to be Frank on the 1901 enumerator's summary but I wonder whether it was Fredk on the original household schedule.

So many replies!

Mark - I have tried FreeBMD as well, seems to be a bit clearer than Ancestry (in my opinion) but can't seem to find anything that matches particularly well. It is possible he was in WWI, but I'm not entirely sure how I would check something like that either.

Kay - That looks likely to be them, they didn't move far in those days! Where did you find that census record, can't seem to find it on Ancestry? Is there another way to access it?

avm - I believe that's my George and Nellie, the dates are place of birth seem to match up with what is written in the 1911 census.

Thanks everyone,
Alice

Hi

There is the this birth reg for Agnes

Births Sep 1874   Greenacre  Agnes Louisa     Mildenhall  4a 543

In 1881 she appears with parents Barnham (Bornham?) and Hannah plus siblings in Moulton. The surname appears as Greenace. I think dad may actually be Barnabas.

Hello Alice

In 1901 try looking on Ancestry for George Frank Everitt b 1900 Southend on Sea. His father George is shown as Everitt George b 1876 Brightlingsea, Essex.   It is there - just mistranscribed  :)
