Does anyone recognise this building?
« on: Tuesday 29 July 14 14:15 BST (UK) »
Does anyone recognise this building. I posted this previously in February last year but have still been unable to date the photo or trace the building.

This came from my Gt Grandmothers collection. We have connections with Kent, particularly the Ryarsh, Offham to Maidstone area.

Does anyone know of photos of Milgate House in Maidstone as I would like to eliminate (or otherwise!) this as an option. There are family ties to the Fremlin family.

Thanks

Beautiful.

Even if it still stands it may have been "remodelled" and sadly may be unrecognizable.

I have had a look at the Lost Country Houses of Kent and I can't see this house, however there are not images of each house which has been lost. Possibly good news, in that in may have survived.  :)

Thanks all

Excellent images - love Bing :D.  I think we can safely say the picture is not of Milgate House.

Ruskie, sadly you are right but we live in hope!!

Can anyone hazard a guess at a date from the rear of the photo?

As regards date of photo, I would estimate 1900 - 1910 by the style of lettering. Of course it could be later if the photographer kept his old stocks into the next fashion.
The house itself is Georgian, c 1790ish with Victorian addition on the left. The Victorians appear also to have altered somke of the windows, but that could be the light.

Regards,

Aj
