Info on Henry Burton
« on: Tuesday 29 July 14 21:03 BST (UK) »
Hi
I am looking for Henry Burton born 1828 England who is on the 1871 census with his family all born in the Channel Islands. Is there any way of getting any more info on this man? The one who I am searching for was born 1828 in Cornwall. He is a missing relative and this is my last shot. I know he was in the Merchant Service as a young man then he disappeared.
Thanks

In 1871 eldest child was 22 but in 1861 there is a 13yr old dtr so any marriage approx 1845-1848.

However - the 1861 shows Jane as a widow and charwoman - no trace of Henry.  have you viewed that entry?    RG9 Piece 4398 Folio 72 Page 39

I had a quick look for a marriage today but couldn't find one, there is a way round this but as I'm away for a week from tomorrow I can't follow it up for a couple of weeks.

I did however find the baptisms of their children and they were all baptized as Bible Christians (breakaway Methodists who were set up in Devon and Cornwall c1815). They were all described as the children of Henry and Jane Burton and he is entered as either a Builder or a Mason. The spellings of the names are as they appear in the transcription.

27/06/1847 Sarah Jane
30/04/1849 Wm Henry
07/07/1852 Adilla
03/12/1854 Clara Isa Augusta Emeline
03/10/1858 Frederick Albert
