WWI Disabled Soldiers Embroidery Industry
« on: Tuesday 29 July 14 01:56 BST (UK) »
Hi Sarah
I discovered a beautiful piece of embroidery made by the Soldiers Embroidery Industry.  I live near Ottawa, Ontario CA and was at an auction recently where I purchased a box lot of items with this embroidery piece in the box.  If you are still interested in items such as this please let me know and I will post some photos.  I must say the work is beautiful and a pleasant surprise to have found it.  It measures about 6" x 8", is double sided and appears to be a pocket of some sort for holding handkerchiefs maybe.
Would love to hear and see more of this work.

OK Sarah, we're going to give this a whirl.  I have an iPhone which I take photos on and a Macbook that I do correspondence on - sometimes the two don't speak to each other although that was one of the selling features of these expensive products!!  Another topic for another day!!
I am attempting to forward the photos of the embroidery item that I found in a box lot of items at an auction - knowing what I know now, I am surprised it wasn't ravaged by mice, or sustained dry rot or mould from just being packed away in an old trailer.
I also wanted to thank you for sending me the link for the 'lost prayer cloth' - no doubt I had goosebumps!!
Any other information on these items would be greatly appreciated i.e. - who collects them etc.
We'll be in touch I'm sure.

BTW - I love the needlework you do using heritage fabrics etc.  Absolutely gorgeous and creative.

Later in the day…

I've tried the attachment button but it doesn't give me the attachment option??  Do you have an email address that I can send the photos to??  Thanks Sarah

Hi Lori,

I have just sent you a PM (private message)

It sounds like it has found a good home, it was lucky to have survived all these years can't wait to see!

Hi Lori,

I have moved this post to our WW1 board as I am sure it will be of interest to a wider group of people.

Here are the images that you sent me  :) The stitching is beautiful and in such condition It must have been kept out of the sun to retain such good colour.

Sarah :)
