Mary Winnifred McDermott
« on: Thursday 31 July 14 16:30 BST (UK) »
Mary was born in 1902 in Pelton/Chester-le-Fell, and died in 1908 age 6.  Is there any way I can find out how she died?  Family folklore says she was run over by a horse and cart, but her mother lost so many children that it could have been one of the others that died in that tragic way.  Of her 10 children Mary Ann McDermott lost 5 as small children, then her 17 year old son was killed in France in WW1.  Four sons survived.  Will young Mary's cause of death be on the death certificate.  Would a child's accidental death have been noted in the local papers :'( ???

You may well find it in the local paper too. An eight year old cousin of my Dad was run over by a steam traction engine and that was reported in the paper.
