Hi,
Unfortunately civil registration of births did not start in Ireland until 1864. Before then you have to depend on church records so you need to know the religion and a more exact location than Co. Antrim, preferably the townland or parish.

We have little to go on apart from Birth date. He was Protestant.I realize that may be harder to find than R.C. but maybe there is something out there.

If you search for McClurkin on the Griffith's Valuation section of:

http://www.askaboutireland.ie/

you get seven returns, all in County Antrim.  One of these is Thomas in the townland of Ballynulto, in the parish of Glenwhirry.  The valuation is dated 1862 for this area.  Glenwhirry lies about half-way between Ballymena and Larne.

Just one more which may well be a total red herring.  If you search the 1851 census (fragments) at:

http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/

for McCurkin and McLurkin you will find a couple of McClurkin families in Larne.  The entries have been wrongly transcribed and apparently duplicated and are confusing.  If you look at the original forms (again duplicated) you will see that three of the family transcribed as McLurkin are on their way to America.  Unfortunately the ages do not tie up but Nancy (31) Anne (28) and Thomas (21 and a shoemaker) McClurkin are on the high seas on the day of the census.

Interesting but perhaps totally irrelevant.  Good luck with the search.

Hello sheenaj,

There is a possible Thomas in 1870 census https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/MZRK-3BZ

Thomas McClerking with presumably his parents Hugh and Margaret.
