Lt Col Marsh - CO at which POW Camp ??
« on: Thursday 31 July 14 19:15 BST (UK) »
I am doing some research into Lt Colonel Conrad Richard Cresswell MARSH.
He served in 'Kings Shropshire Light Infantry' rising to Lt Colonel.
His obituary in November 1964 mentions that he was a CO at a prisoner of war camp during WW2
Can anyone advise me how I can find out more  about this and which camp ?
Any help or advice would be much appreciated :)

You could check to see if he completed a PoW Liberation report. Around 40% of PoWs completed them during WW2 and they normally list the PoW camps they were in.

One of my National Archives offers at the moment is to check and copy one if it exists for free if a copy of  the war diary covering the period of capture is ordered at the same time.

Hi

Was he the CO of a POW Camp in the UK, or was he imprisoned in one overseas?
The obituary implies the former, I think?

If that was the case, the National Archives do contain reports on many (but not all) of the POW Camps in the UK, and these do refer to the Commanding Officers, but this information is not searchable, and it would involve reviewing individual files. The other option is to contact the regimental archives who may have some more information.

Do you know what regiment he was the gaffer of before capture?
