From their wives' names, none of the soldiers in my earlier post is yours. However,

1901 census, 34 Queen Street, Dukinfield:

William Gillibrand, 34, cotton spinner, b. Dukinfield
Ann Gillibrand, 34, b. Salford
John Gillibrand, 7, b. Dukinfield
Percy King, nephew, 14, cotton piecer, b. Dukinfield

1911 census, 34 Queen Street, Dukinfield:

William Gillibrand, 44,  b. Dukinfield
Ann Gillibrand, 44, b. Pengleton
John Gillibrand, 17, , b. Dukinfield
Hilda Hutchcroft,  8, b. Ashton, Lancs.

The marriage of William Gillibrand and Ann Ryan is registered in Ashton in the September quarter of 1889. I suspect the John Gillibrand whose birth is registered there in the December quarter of 1893 is their son.

Edited for content, please do not post full details from the 1911 census. Only information from the various free indexes is allowed

1841 census for Waterside, Padfield, Glossop, Derbyshire:

Edward Gillibrand, 62, watchman
Susanah Gillibrand, 49
Joseph Gillibrand, 20, cotton
Reubin Gillibrand, 19, cotton
Ellen Gillibrand, 16, cotton
Mary Gillibrand, 9
William Gillibrand, 7

Only the last three are born in Derbyshire.

So, Edward Gillibrand (b. c. 1779) married Susannah Dennely, and had a son, William (b. 1837), who married Martha Beaumont. Their son William married Ann Ryan, whose son, John is your great grandfather.

Hi, My late father in Law was called Samuel Gillibrand b.1921 in Stalybridge, his father was also called Samuel and he was married to Gladys (nee. Lewis). I think Samuel snr's father was called Reuben from a 1901 census record I have.  Now, here's the thing, my husband's uncle, is still living in Stalybridge and we have pics of his family from WW1. I think he might have mentioned he had an Auntie Edie. I can ask him when we see him which is very often, if you'd like us to. Hope the above info might be useful. Sally

Hi

Really nice of you to reply so do you think Samuel and Reuben are from the family mentioned?

It's been really interesting finding this information out all from 1 name, I live in Dukinfield so just round the corner from him

If you can ask that would be great

Thank you
Andy

Hi again,
(*)

I'll take some of the photos and if he's feeling up to it, get him to have a look and I'll make a note of the names. If any are of John or if he can remember a family member by that name, I'll let you know and quite happily copy any relevant photographs.

Can you let me know the names of your grandparents? They would presumably be the same generation as my Uncle .  Kind regards Sally
