Warks Lookup Request - Thomas Watson
« on: Sunday 10 August 14 18:03 BST (UK) »

Looking for Thomas Watson (b.1840 Birmingham) in the 1851 census. Ten years later, 1861, he was in a prison (don't know which, I just know he was sentenced to 5 years in 1860.)

Any help on his census returns for these two years very welcome ...

Many thanks.

He would have been in Warwick Gaol.
Do you have him on any other census?
Do you know if he married?
Is he the Thomas that married Elizabeth Holliday in 1872;

Yes I believe I have found him in the 1841 census in Hatchett Street. But why would he have been sent to Warwick jail? Have you identified a possible 1861 record for him there?

Thanks for your help.

Hi,

I refer to your post regarding Thomas Watson born 1840.

I have Thomas Watson in my family tree, born in Birmingham, Warwickshire  who married Elizabeth Holliday in 1872 in Wye, Kent but cannot find any information about him before 1861.  I can not find his birth certificate or any reference in the 1841 and 1851 census.

I read the reply to your post saying he was in prison for 5 years in about 1861, so i was wondering if you have progressed in your search.

Thanks for your message.

My main interest is with William Lockley who assisted Thomas Watson in a pocket-picking offence. They were both sentenced to jail but I have yet to definitely identify which prison.

You are welcome to these two documents if they are of interest to you.

regards
Doug

Hi,  Thank you so much for replying.

Oh yes I would love to see the two documents you have for Lockley and Watson.

I only learnt about it through your post so it has been really helpful and adds a bit of colour to my family tree.

Thomas Watson was a bit of elusive character and so I am having difficulty in tracing any thing about him.

I haven't used Rootschat for a while so I am not sure if you can upload the documents but I can give you my personal email address if that is useful.

Thanks Anne
