Frederick Cross
« on: Tuesday 28 June 05 18:52 BST (UK) »
Hi,
Just wondering if anyone could do a look up for me regarding a Frederick Cross, b. 1852 in Nottingham city?
I'm interested in his marriage date so I can apply for a certificate because I can't find anything about his parents. He married Selina Smith of Mansfield.
Any info on this date (or on his parents) would be great.
Thanks for your time.

Hi,
Thanks for all the info!
I've just looked on the 1861 census too, and noticed a Frederick Cross listed in Nottingham St. Mary but living with other children-there are no adults listed on his page-is this what you mean by the workhouse? Also how would they have got into there in the first place? This Frederick is listed as a scholar.

Hi Burto
In the workhouse there are, listed below Fredrick
John Cross b 1854
Wm Cross b 1855
-------------------------
Could they all be brothers ?
Children often went in to the workhouse due to financial reasons eg if the husband (or wife )left home or died and other rellies couldnt or wouldnt take them in
