1892 Marriage Lookup
« on: Tuesday 12 August 14 16:58 BST (UK) »
I am trying to find a marriage between an Alexander Jamison and a Mary Spratt, dated the 30th of September 1892 in Magherally, County Down.

Can someone assist me?

They married in Magherally Presbyterian Church on 30 September of that year, his father was George Jamison, hers was John Spratt.

It appears on GRONI online as Alex Jamison and Mary Sprott.  Full record available to view for £2.

Thank you guys!  :)

Do Irish civil marriages not give the mother's maiden names? How might one find these out and go back another generation (or two)? What about ages when married?

I just found a transcription of the record on the Ulster Historical Foundation website but there aren't any mother's names or ages for the couple.

No, I'm afraid they don't.

You're into the territory of looking for civil births post 1864 or baptismal records before that.  In this case, since the marriage took place in 1892, there's a possibility of civil birth registration. The marriage record should include the fathers' occupations, which sometimes helps.

Edited to add:  Post any other information you have about them, eg. 1901 / 1911 census records (post the link to save us the bother).

Some possible connections on https://geni.nidirect.gov.uk/

 George Jamison married Jane Gibson on 3 December 1867 registered in Banbridge;

and on 4 August 1850 George Jamison married Elizabeth Pepper also registered in Banbridge.

Thank you Glensman, I will check into these further to see if they are linked to the George Jamison just found  :)
