Looking for Henry Monteith SHIELDS 1856-1865.
The Glasgow Regiment of Artillery arrived in NSW on the "Nimrod" in 1856.
Any help appreciated
Thank you
Sue

Welcome to Rootschat Sue.

You probably have this already: from the NSW Police Gazette 21 September 1864 (page 294)

Deserters From Her Majesty's Service

Deserted on the 12th inst from the Royal Artillery, stationed in Sydney, Gunner Henry Shields (No 261) aged 32 years and 8 months. Five feet 9 1/2 inches high, fair complexion, red hair, grey eyes. Enlisted on 7th January 1853 at Glasgow, Scotland.

It seems that a George Jacques deserted at the same time

Thank you so very much for the information Shaun.
It has filled in a gap in my family story.
It's great to get a description as well.
