Crafty P,
Thanks for your interest. I will make inquiries with the Northampton records office. As for your other question I do not know if George was married when he lived at 23 Charles Street in 1898, (although I suspect he was). As I explained in my first post, my grandfather, Thomas William Smith/William Stanton was born out of wedlock. His mother was Anne Maria Smith who had her own dressmaking business in Bridgwater, and then Bristol. It is my strong belief she visited Northampton in the mid 1870's in connection with that business and met George Stanton. The result of that affair being my grandfather. This may seem to be nothing more than conjecture but is the result of much research. I have whittled down the likely candidates that fit all the criteria to four people, the evidence I need now that will show without doubt which one of those is my great grandfather is the list of residents at 23 Charles Street, Kettering at the time my father signed up for the Northampton Regiment and gave those details in 1898.
Cheers, Crisreyn.
