Salford/ Lancashire Lad Date and Clothing Advice

 :)Thank you for reading a post from New Zealand. This photo is from my Grandma Read's tin of treasured family photos. We have no idea who this person is, but it must be someone treasured, as very few photos survive. My Gran Irene was born in Brighton in 1911.

We are hoping for a suggestion of Date or a time period so that we can at least 'guess' at possibilities.  We are hoping clothes and the circular badge may be a clue. We don't know if these would have been work clothes or a best outfit.

We have several male family members for who a "Known" photo does not yet exist.  Advice/ suggestions of  his age  would also be greatly appreciated. Thank you again, Sue.

Hi sue...He looks about 18-20 years old to me...is it a postcard and is there anything on the back?
You might like to scan around the lapel badge at a resolution of 600dpi and we may be able to identify it which could give a clue.

Hi Sue....If this is a copy then you can't alter the resolution...it would need to be scanned from the original.

Really could be anytime from around the end of WW1 up to the 1940's, however the style of the photo commonly called cinema photography was popular in the 20's & 30's but collar pins weren't really that popular in the 30's after collar stiffeners were invented so I would suggest the 1920's.
As Carol says you will need to scan the badge from the original photo.

My guess would have been 1920s too...He has the look of an athlete...don't know why and I would say he would have dressed up in his best suit for the photo....That is a very distinctive parting...not often you see one that high and he would have had that all his life...unless he lost his hair  ...I would look at other photos to see if anyone in later life had a similar parting.
