ASTIN FAMILY, BURSLEM
« on: Sunday 24 August 14 23:18 BST (UK) »
Trying to find information on Joshua Astin b. 19 Jul 1834 d. 18 Dec 1902
and his wife Susannah b. 25 Nov 1832.
They married at St Pauls Church, Dalehall, Burslem on 2 Sep 1858.
Their daughter Sarah Jane Astin was born on 6 Aug 1859 and was christened at the Bethel Chapel.
She married a Percival Hamstall who died on 13 May 1902 and she herself died on 11 Nov 1901.
I have looked at online records and have not been able to find anything.  I am looking for descendants of this family.  Any help would be appreciated.   ???
Ceejayaitch.

FreeBMD is showing:

September qtr 1858
Wolstanton district     vol 6b, page 96

Arpin, Joshua
Ball, Susannah

Goldstraw, Sarah
Meakin, William

A double-whammy with mistranscriptions?! ;D

Burslem was a parish within the Wolstanton Registration District until 1922.

Not FreeBMD's fault - the original entry in the GRO Index says Joshua ARPIN - between surnames Arnup and Arrowsmith  :-X

Added:  and looking at the original parish register entry - he appears to have signed as Joshua ASPIN

Added (2):  The marriage entry at Burslem says that Joshua is a Builder from Macclesfield.

There is a newspaper article relating to the death of Sarah Jane Aspin, spinster, embroiderer born Macclesfield 1859 the daughter of Joshua Aspin and Susannah Ball who died in 1942 in Macclesfield leaving £500. the article request any next of kin to contact a firm of solicitors.

As for the Astin family there is no record on Staffordshire records.

The mystery is, why would Susannah Ball born Manchester and Joshua Aspin born cheshire marry in Staffordshire and have their daughter b Cheshire baptised there.
All census entries have them living in Macclesfield.

I wish the vicar at Burslem had better hand-writing - I might then be able to read the "abode" for Susannah.  ;D  Whatever it is, I think it ends "hole"  Is there a Dalehole?  I can't see one.  Her father, John, was a Travelling Salesman, so she could very well have been born in Manchester!
