Surname Interest:- "DREAD"
« on: Wednesday 29 June 05 15:51 BST (UK) »
Hello Friends,

I have a ANN DREAD who married a John Piper 12 February 1797 in Sudbury.

Apparently ANN DREAD was born in Long Melford but I haven't a year or date. If anyone can help with more information that would be great.

If there is anyone out there with the same surname interest I would like to hear from you.

Hi again Wendy,
You do go in for unusual surnames  ;D
Had a look on the 1841, there is only one Dread in the whole of Suffolk and none in Norfolk, Cambs or Essex.
North St Sudbury
John Dread 60 Army P Y
in same household as Elizabeth Black 60 Wid N
HO107-1044  ED13 Folio40 Pg16

I think I might have found John Piper in Sudbury in 1841 but no Ann, do you want details?
Jan ;)

Hi Jan,

Great to hear from you again. The name "DREAD" is certainly unusual and interesting but I am glad it's not mine! :)

I would love to have any details of John Piper, it would be great.

I wonder where the name "DREAD" came from and what it actually means, maybe it is pronounce differently than the way I am reading it. Any way it is certainly different.

I appreciate any help

Wendy

Hello Audley,

It is lovely to meet you.

Thankyou very much for the information that you given me on the "DREAD" family, it is very helpful and interesting.

It would be interesting to know if Henry Lezwell Dread Jr, had a sister named Ann.

I appreciate all your help Audley, and I thankyou again for the information on the DREAD Family.

Wendy

Have you made any progress on the Dread family of Long Melford because I think I have at least 1 member you might not have discovered.

I have been tracing the Webb family of Sudbury and got back to 1841 when it was headed by a Susanna Webb born about 1771, widow of John Webb. Looking up all the Webb children in Sudbury born to a John and Susanna revealed a Jonathan christened 19 June 1797 son of John Webb and Susannah Dread.
This rang bells as there is a John Dread living with Susanna Webb in North St 1841 and 1851 born about 1790- could be her brother?
IGI has Susan Dread christened  in Long Melford 7 July 1770 daughter of John and Mary Dread.

What's the chance Susan/Susanna and John are siblings of Ann?

Hi Sustev,

Great reseaching!!!!

Yes I do beleive that you have got it right. It does look like that Susan (Susanna) and John Dread are the sibblings of my Ann Dread. So thankyou for your help.

Ann died 28 May 1838 in Long Melford and her husband John Piper died 25 Dec 1855, also at Long Melford.

Thankyou once again

Wendy

Hi Wendy

There's also a Henry born in Long Melford abt 1790 who died in the workhouse in Leyton - found on Ancestry. I don't know how he fits in but could he be a bit young to be a younger brother?
