Hi everyone,

Please join our group if you are in Cyprus or if you are abroad and have an interest in genealogy in Cyprus - the group is non-political and is open to all Cypriots, Foreigners and expats regardless of ethnic identity or religion.

The group's facebook name is: Cyprus Family History & Genealogical Group, and the direct URL link to the group's facebook page is: https://www.facebook.com/groups/310490282397111/

More about the group below:

The Cyprus Family History & Genealogical Group, has been created with the aim of helping researchers to identify what genealogical resources exist in Cyprus.

For those, who are resident in Cyprus, and are keenly interested in history and genealogical research, and who would like to volunteer to help transcribe records and identify what records exist for their local parishes/town/village please feel free send an email through. You will need a good working knowledge of Greek, Turkish or English.

The district registries, while sometimes helpful, can often be very difficult to obtain information from about our ancestors and indeed in providing a guide on what sources/what birth/death books still exist in their collections or indeed in even replying to emails/letters/or telephone calls. This rarely happens.

As such, with the collaboration of others, we would be able to find out what records still exist, and or help transcribe local older records which are often in a bad state before they are completely ravished by the effects of time, by transcribing and digitising those records for the benefit of all researchers.

If anyone is interested in volunteering to help create a database of records/sources for Cyprus, or in helping to digitise local records please feel free to let me know.

Anthony
