Hi lovely people.

Brickwall time: William Hender/Ender/Ensor/Hinder.

Born 1730? where?

Married Mary Weller 1756 Handborough Oxfordshire.
Text:   p. 2. William Hender & Mary Weller 07 Jun 1756
Book:   Volume 4. Marriages and Banns Register [marked No. 5.] (Marriage)
Collection:   Oxford: - Register of Marriages, 1559-1837

On this marriage there is a witness by the name of Grace Hender presuming she is a sister.

The only Grace Hender's that i can find are in Cornwall possible Lewanick as there is a brother William b 1727.

He Died Hanborough 1813 as William Ensor (PR Disc).

I am unable to find any occupation or when or how he appeared in Oxfordshire.

I have emailed Oxfordshire archives with little success.

He and Mary had 4 children William, James and 2 x Mary all born Bladen. i have these baptisms unfortunately nothing on their father other than the marriage and death any help to find what he did or how he got there is much appreciated.

many thanks in advance

A quick check of the OFHS's Oxfordshire Marriage Index (1538-1837) for marriages before 1735 reveals the following:

HENDER - 1731 at Deddington (groom from Kings Sutton)
HINDER - none
ENDER - none
ENSER - none
ENSOR - none

Looks like it might be worth checking the Deddington PRs for further information on that marriage, plus - possibly - William's baptism.

WOW thanks Pennie.

I have a few PR discs but not that one and nothing comes up on familysearch or ancestry.

will certainly look into that one.

Very much appreciated.

I did an essay on the following Generations of this family for my Uni course.

Would love to complete this family.

If you're doing a lot of research in Oxfordshire, then I consider this marriage index disc worth every penny!

I think it's currently about £50.00, includes all the "old" parishes of Oxfordshire (but not those originally in Berkshire and transferred to Oxfordshire in the early 1970s) and is searchable by both groom and bride's name.

Possibly a bit of a financial outlay, but I had mine as a Christmas present.

Good luck with your research.

Hi Pennie,

Thanks for your help.

I have been to Surrey fh fair today and i can report back

Marraige was John Hender and Ann Davies in Deddington, also have her baptism and parents so that's a new name for me to research.

I am now perusing Kings Sutton Northants for Williams Baptism and that Grace is now likely to be his sister.

I also have a small disc of Deddington BMD.

Thank you so much for the help it was invaluable.
