Pete (oldfart1946),

Do you remember your earlier threads about Mary Ann and her husband?  You already have details of their marriage, in which she names her father, and all available census records, which suggest that she was born in Calne (Wiltshire).

Hi Carol
Thanks for your reply.
The Mary ANN Newman I was following born in Caln Wiltshire may not be the one for my family tree as I have just found a Mary Ann Newman who was born in oxford in1841 (the same year) but I cannot find her parents.
If you could help me with this query it would be much appreciated
many thanks
pete

Hi Pete

When you say you've just found her where was that please? A quick look on the 1851 census shows a Mary Ann Newman born in Oxford St Giles parents James and Harriet but in 1846 not 1841.

Hi Pete

I've found her birth as you did on BMD but can't see her on 1851 census , nor can I see a likely early death for her. One possibility is that her mother married/remarried and Mary Ann appears on census as something other than Newman.

Just been reading through your old threads and am wondering what makes you think you were following the wrong family - the more information you can give the better :)
