Hi and welcome to Rootschat!

I am wondering how you know this man is your great grandfather if you have no more details, not even a name!  Have you got the birth cert for your grandfather/mother (whichever is the relevant child of his) to give you his name? Please give us all the info you know, thanks

Yes I know it's strange; no documents , just memories spoken by my 86 year old mother who has moments of clarity.

To find anything meaningful, you are going to need to start with what you do know for sure, and work backwards one step at a time, until you get to this great grandfather.

Do you know who your grandparent was? Name, date and place of birth? When/where married?

If you dont know that, then start with your mother, has she got her birth cert giving parents names and mothers maiden name.

When you have found the earliest person that you do have documentation for, pop the details here (not of any living person though) and we can have a look and hopefully work back through censuses and other records until we reach your great grandfather.
