A research cert is a photocopy/scan of the original register.
A certified copy would be required for legal situations such as a solicitor being notified of a death.

Thanks for putting me right. I have been to the GRO site again and seen the small section underneath the main pricing section which says you can have a research copy for 4 Euros.

Thanks
Sean

not sure if you are aware of this but usually where it says ''also known as'' on the prison registers means next of kin and not an alias
it would be interesting to find out who Pk Carberry is mentioned in one of his files in 1902
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/KMQG-M7Z

Have just had chance to see the original documents held by LDS in one of their Family Centers

Pk Carberry is a wrong transcription ...whoever did it took the info regarding next of kin from the prisoner below. Also as you mention AKA should have been written as Next of Kin. These original documents are just a joy to view ... much more detailed than the IGI index info ....I have also downloaded them.

thanks
Sean

As promised was in the G R O this morning done a search from  1912 to 1921 got the same results as Tara posted with slight variation in dates, checked both Connor and O'Connor/Mullen.
Registered as O'Connor/Mullen
Peter born 28/2/13 Dub South vol 2 page 669
Mary born 25/5/15 Dub South vol 2 page 662
Simon born 10/3/19 Dublin only does not say North or South vol 2 page 602
Tara's post no 28 this topic says Simon was in England around this time so i wonder could some of the other children have been born there or possibly not registered, though also saying as with my own relatives O'Neills some of their births appear in the index books as O'Neill/O'Neill but when the index was online on Irish Genealogy for that short while they appeared as O'Neill/Gillespie.

Edit later
Judging by Simons birth 1919 it is quite possible the other 3 you mentioned were born after 1921 which i had not checked as there were hundreds of O'Connors born each year to go through.

Thanks dathai

my father always said mums birthday was 25/5/1915 but we have never had any proof before. That date sounds to be confirmed now by your trip to the GRO ..... the other two dates also match up with Simon's war papers. We can contact the GRO now and get the proper copies and I'm sure those are the right ones.
cheers
