Sarah Mutrie Fairbrother from abingdon
« on: Sunday 07 September 14 11:43 BST (UK) »
Hi There,
     Looking for some assistance in tracing the parents of Sarah Mutrie Fairbrother, born 1806 in the parish of St helens, Abingdon, Berkshire. I know this is the Oxfordshire lookup requests,  but it appears that this parish appears on OFHS.

Many thanks for any advice before i buy the CD.

Hi Mike,

In the  St.Helen's transcripts  - (on cd - OXF-AB01 ex Oxon FHS)  there is this baptism;
8-3-1801 Sarah Mutrie Fairbrother d/o James & Elizabeth, Locksmith

I couldn't see a marriage for her.

But I have found a possible marriage for her parents;
Sutton Courtnay;
1-8-1790 James Fairbrother, bach, of St.Helens
               Elizab. Druce, sp
By Licence.
Wits; James Robins, Lydia King

Hi Alan,
     Thank you so much for your help, this is a great step forward for me. I believe I have the marriage, in 1828 in London to George Shepherd. The London marriage has a witness Rich Fairbrother which I assume may be her brother.

Thanks,
   Mike

Hi Mike,

I have found the bapt. of James;
Abingdon St.Helens;
21-6-1767 James Fairbrother s/o Robert & Elizabeth, Blacksmith

also which can add to the confusion is this bapt.
7-12-1824 Sarah Mutrie Fairbrother d/o James & Sarah, Ironmonger, abode - High Street, Privately Baptised.

I couldn't see a Richard Fairbrother bapt.

Hi Alan,
   Thank you so much for the additional information. I am not so sure about the 1824 record for Sarah Mutrie, as I have found a London marriage in 1826 for a Sarah Mutrie & George Shepherd.

I am very puzzled by the name Sarah Mutrie, and can only assume somewhere down the line there must have been a Mutrie marrying a Fairbother.

Regards,
     Mike
