First photo is 1920's, the second photo is not the same gentleman. The ears are the one thing that don't change and the ears on picture one are markedly different from those in picture two as greensleeves points out.

Could Auntie Gladys have made a mistake when she was identifying the photos and it is a Marsden family member, just not one with first name of Tom? It's easily done if she did a batch of them.
It's also a bit odd that she did not seem to know the name of the wife, suggesting it may be quite a distant relative  :-\

Thanks AJ - this is also what we thought on closer inspection!

I wonder if we'll ever know who he is  :-\

greenpaula I think that one of your two suggestions is the right answer! I did wonder about the "and wife" tag! I was hoping a cousin but as I said earlier its not!

A second cousin maybe, we could go on forever  ;D

Its a shame, he seems like quite a jovial fella, I would have like to place him correctly in the tree!

Old Tom however, I think, looks just like the school attendance officer that he was for 30+ years  ;)

Hmmm...I would have said the handwriting says Jim, not Tom :P Any chance Tom had a brother?

You know I was so excited to see a pic of Tom (we had been researching him and we saw this picture before old Tom) that I completely missed that!!

School girl error!!

Thank you!

I'm going on a James hunt and will report back late!!

*sigh*

There is no cousin James / Jim  ???

(Well, first cousin at least, I guess we now may have to look for 2nd cousins)
