Mary Owen (B 1771) Amlwch
« on: Saturday 13 September 14 21:49 BST (UK) »
The 1851 census lists the above lady as widowed,  living in Amlwch. Her birthplace, though noted as being Anglesey, appears to be Llanddeiniolen. I wonder if anyone with access to other records can find anything more about her , please ? I can't seem to find her in 1841. I am particularly interested in finding out whether she had any children, and whether her husband was called Thomas.

Thank you both very much. I don't know the area at all, but would the death addresses be consistent with the 1851 census ? The reason I ask is the apparent 'Llanddeiniolen' birthplace.

I'm afraid I don't know the area either but the place of death (Rhydtalog) is not consistent with the 1851 census (Trerdath?). Rhydtalog seems to be an area on the Amlwch/Llaneilian road, I cannot identify Trerdath.
The Mary and Thomas Owen found by keyboard86 in the 1841 census (Census ref HO107/1362/ 3/12 / 16) seem to be the Mary and Thomas Owen of the death registrations. Mary Owen (born in county in 1841) is not consistent with the Mary Owen (born Llanddeiniolen in 1851).

True enough. I think that a long look at the 1841 census is the only way. I know that a Mary Owen (b 1771, Llanddeiniolen) married a Thomas Owen from Llanddona in 1797, and then moved to the Northern part of Anglesey, somewhere between Amlwch and Holyhead. I strongly suspect its her in the 1851 census, as its unlikely to be anyone else.

Could the place "Trerdath" you speak of be Trefdraeth? Its a small parish about 3 miles NW of Newborough on the western side of Anglesey. See the link below for the GENUKI entry.

In the 18th/19th century parts of the coastal strip of Caernarvonshire adjacent to Anglesey (across the Menai Straits) came under the jurisdiction of the county of Anglesey. As Llanddeiniolen is located in this coastal strip between Bangor and Caernarfon it is likely it could have been considered within the county at the time of the 1841 census. So the 1841 Mary Owen could still be the same one as the 1851 Mary Owen.
