Just to side track a bit,

Is this the first marriage

Marriages Mar 1928   (>99%)
JONES    Garnett    Varty    Newcastle T.    10b   107

There is another (or the same?) Garnet (one t) Jones appearing in the papers in 1933. He was about to marry Nellie Tarran of Buckley when her father found out he was already married. He ran off to Doncaster “where he had previously worked”.
Nellie was pregnant and he was ordered to pay maintenance
It does seem odd the papers hadn’t picked up the previous offence but one can’t help being a bit suspicious.

There is a Dec 1933 reg of a daughter Tarran with MMN Tarran in Hawarden Which I think is her. 1933; POSs still living so won’t name.

Hi Miriam,

This is just an observation, but....
I obtained my grandmothers and grandfathers birth certificates and found their parents names and took it from their .
Just want to make sure it’s my family.

I have always been told to start with your own birth certificate as there have been many cases in the past when the indivual thought they knew who their father & mother was, only to find out it was not the case.

I'm sure you may have already done so, but your comment above indicates otherwise.

Miriam, you say   "He was in the army, Welsh Grenadier guard."  There are the Welsh Guards and then there's the Grenadier Guards, two quite different regiments. You could consider applying for a copy of his service records which may provide further background information. As you claim he died over 25 years ago anyone could apply to see his records. You would need to provide a copy of his death certificate.

If she was previously married you need to buy a copy of the 1964 marriage cert to establish her fathers name which will give you her birth surname - unless you already have that information??

She married as Peggy Jones in 1964

She died 2006

Miriam says that her mother was born in the Jones family, so it looks like she is
Peggy Jones
Registration Quarter:   Apr-May-Jun
Reg district:   Colchester, Essex
Mother's Maiden Name:   Smith
Volume Number:   4a
Page Number:   1327

Cannot currently see a Peggy Jones marriage in Colchester, though there are (of course) lots in Essex which might be her....
