Looking for any info on James Galloway b.1843 In Dumfries but moved to Camden St. In London as a "french baker".James had 5 children with his wife Nancy.Any comment welcome.
Galloway family originating Ayrshire then Lochmaben Dumfrieshire but also in Dumfries,Saltcoats,Ayrshire.Other Dumfriesshire surnames of Richardson,Clarke,Carlyle McIlwraith.Laidlaw from Crawford.Robertson and Taylor ,Buchan originating Banff and Peterhead and Fraserburgh.Ayrshire names of Keegans,Goudie and Galt.

Hi what do you hope to find out about James Galloway & family.  His wife seems to have been Agnes nee Chalmers.
In 1881 census james, agnes, Children Thomas 10, Mary 7, George 5 & James 1 are living at 46 Camden St London - James occupation French Baker.
In 1891 family are living in Islington St Anns with child James missing & further children Albert 9, Maud 7 & Kate 4.
Agnes Galloway died in Islington in July 1900 :)

Bit concerned with the 1867marriage in Edinburgh.May be coincidence that there was two James Galloway's both born 1843 in Scotland and both bakers.If we had access to Marriage Cert it would clear this up ?James' s father was James and his mother was Mary Galloway nee Carlyle.

Where did the name Nancy come from as his wife appears to be Agnes.

Nancy is a common derivative of the name agnes as is the name senga (reversed).!

Sorry guys this is not him.My James Galloway was born in Lochmaben Dumfrieshire.I have his ancestry in some detail but apart from his birth cannot find his marriage or demise.
