Zimbabwe Death Notice Question
« on: Friday 26 September 14 15:57 BST (UK) »
Hi

Please could someone explain to me why a Scottish National would appear on a Zimbabwe death notice, even though they actually died in Scotland.

This is the case with a relation of mine who died in 1916.

It is 100% the same person who has a death certificate on Scotlandspeople and a death notice on Family Search Zimbabwe records.

Thank you.

It suggests that there would have been a number of people in Rhodesia, whether family, friends, or business associates, who knew him.

Did he not possibly leave an estate in Rhodesia?  If so there would have been a death notice issued so that the estate could be would up and funds transferred back to Scotland

He had a son and nephews living there, not sure if he personally had any estate.

So the answer is that because he had family living out there that he was why he would appear on a death notice.

Thank you.

I would not think that a death notice would be filed just because he had family living there.  If his estate was wound up in Scotland they would just inherit from that estate and any cash involved would have been done through a bank account.

If you give his full details possibly something else would come to light.

I'm afraid I misunderstood the query - in giving my earlier response I had assumed that we were talking about a death notice in  a newspaper which I now understand is not the case.

Can you post a link to the familysearch image please? It would help to understand the context better

OK I 've found the index page https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1-14684-33342-36?cc=1837900&wc=M6LS-M2S:163032001,163031602

Now can we find the actual notice from that...
