welcome to rootschat....

firstly please dont put your personal details on the forum.....

regarding adoptions and materials related please use our search box and read some of the materials.
... for links and organisations you may be able to use...

because you didnt specify as to the living your birth mother may still be alive.     I would personally consult Barnardos as they do a lot of the adoption mysteries worldwide.....    I am guessing you have your birth certificate??????    and usually in the Commonwealth countries one can apply to the government agencies to make discovery.

others will advise you better and if you make two more answers on the forum , you will have enabled personal messaging   ...   someone specialising in this area may contact you through personal messaging...

Moderators will have to edit this post please .....

Hi Denise

Have you contacted the General Register Office about your adoption file?

https://www.gov.uk/adoption-records

You could also put yourself on the contact register to see if she is looking for you.

If you have your birth certificate, see what address she was living at at the time of your birth and have a look at the electoral register to see who else was at the address. If she was under 21 she wont be listed but other family members may be. Very few historic registers are online so you'll need to contact the local archives.

As you have your birth certificate it should give your mothers full name, the FreeBDM index shows her as Jessop. You could be lucky and check on this index to see if she married after your birth. You have to post again before you can use the personal messaging option on here.

www.freebmd.org.uk is a volunteer project which transcribes the GRO birth, death and marriage indexes. After the 1940's coverage is patchy and incomplete.

I had a look for a possible marriage at FindMyPast 1957-1965 but there weren't any in the area of your birth registration. The nearest were Woolwich and Dartford.

From that you could infer she was sent to the maternity home to have her baby but was living elsewhere, that her name of your birth registration was not her real name - it could have been her middle name - , or she hasn't married in England & Wales since.

So if you can, follow up on the electoral registers, that would be my first choice, while you wait to hear from the GRO about your file.
