I have my moments  ;D

You certainly do ! Very impressive and I really appreciate the help! Thank you!
It just seemed such an odd name I was convinced I was reading it incorrectly.

Another 67 years to type up and check and they'll be in Free Reg :-)

I've revised the co-ords I gave in my earlier posting, so that it really is positioned exactly on the right place.

I'd love to know the origin of that name.

According to the OED Meat can mean fodder for animals.

Hanging my head in shame here

I must have just tried Meal & Bield on the farms index of 1860 and missed trying for Meat and Bield.
 I just checked again and its there, Township of Orde and Parish of Tweedmouth, so a baptism at Spittal would be within reach.

<Boo makes a note, must try harder>

Thanks to everyone who helped, much appreciated. Back to the typing now :-)

Sorry, I am a bit late replying to this thread. My ancestor Robert Edminson owned one of the Meat and Bield fields in East Ord in the early 19th century. His name is on the tithe award, as is that of Adam Bell, as owning the land. Details are on the Northumberland Communities site at
