'St Valery', Slade Road, Roughley
« on: Sunday 05 October 14 19:55 BST (UK) »
Hi
Does anyone know what was at 'St Valery', Slade Road, Roughley (Birmingham)?
The person I'm looking into was a domestic servant there in 1928. I'm thinking maybe it was just the name of a private residence, but I thought I'd ask just in case anyone has heard of it as being something else.

Thanks

Roughley is in Sutton Coldfield B'ham.
I can't see anything coming up for it.
The only Slade Rd. in the Electoral Register is the one in Erdington.
1921 OS map shows 1 farmhouse & a few cottages nothing else.
Although the farm was just known as Slade farm the house may have had the name St. Valery although I can't find any evidence of it.

Thanks, Jim - it's interesting that not much seemed to be there at the time. Narrows it down a bit, I guess. I had just assumed it was a street full of more up-market private residences.

Not sure what St Valery was but my mothers mother was a housemaid there in 1928.

Hello
I tracked down Slade Road.It is north of Sutton Coldfield.
Here is a map of 1938  showing the road at the very bottom -sloping upwards to the edge of the page.
No sign of St Valery but there are large houses on there which could well have had a name.
