New Index Search for Tasmanian Archives
« on: Wednesday 08 October 14 04:25 BST (UK) »
Wow, I have just seen this, what a good job!

http://linctas.ent.sirsidynix.net.au/client/en_AU/names

You can now search across all indexes and they link directly to the digitised images.  I haven't watched the whole instructional video yet, but at the moment I can't see how to do a wildcard search which was previously %.

Oh now I know what was happening when I attempted to search the Tas Archives just now....page wouldn't come up and then just stalled....and finally opened.

I wonder if the Patrick TORLEY death is John Henry's father?

Wonderful ....wish PROV would have a peep at the site :-X

So it seems to have the wildcard search built in.  A search for TORLEY also brings up TOOLEY, TURLEY, TOLLEY etc.   ;D

Brilliant! I have been searching since 1979 for the arrival of Robert Herbertson into Tasmania in the early 1830s. Have found a Robert Habertson arriving in 1833 using this index. Gotta be him I reckon.

Oh this is great! Thanks Debra. I entered my convict's name and lo and behold, the details of every reference to him appear. And note that they ASK for critical comments! Almost brings back my faith in digital research. Fran
