I was wondering if that said 'Remustered'.Would it have anything to do with the CCs entry?

The other date is 13 Feb 1919 I think. He was  de-mobbed then at Heaton Park.

He was put back on the Muster Rolls. In other words he was back on strength.

Many thanks for your help.

As I said, it's a bit clearer now.

I know it's almost 9 years since I originally posted this topic but I recently came across an article which may be somehow connected. It details Alfred Howarth's life in Russia, which shows that he was working in Moscow in 1916, yet his Army Record suggests he was possibly enlisted in 1916. He came back to UK late 1917 and he joined the Signals Corp in Jan 1918.

Is it possible there was a bit more to his life in Russia, or am I being a bit James Bondy??

I've re-visited his record to see if there's anything I might have missed
but there's still some uncertainties.
It appears he was conscripted into the Lancs. Fus. so must have returned for
that or he would have been deemed a deserter.
It doesn't look like he stayed there long enough to be allotted a number as the only
one he has is with the R.E.
It may be there was some sort of intervention at the time possibly from his employer
but we'll never know for sure.
If you want to be "James Bondy" about it he could have been providing the Secret Service
based in the British Embassy with intelligence & they intervened & sent him back to Russia.
After returning following the revolution he joined the R.E. signals (D Corps Signals Coy. 4 Corps).
Although there's no mention of where he was sent his appearance in 3 C.C.S. indicates France as
that's where they were based & at the time he arrived they were at Gézaincourt which is about
25mls. North of Amiens.
The R.E. museum has info re. D Corps Signals but only up to 1917 so I don't know where they were
post war, however I can't see anything suggesting they were part of the International Intervention Force
sent out in Mar. 1919.
Possibly he was seconded to the G.H.Q. there as an interpreter but that's just conjecture on my part.
These are the War Diary dates held by the R.E. Museum.

Thanks Jim. Like you say, we'll probably never know. I have tried to contact the author of the article, but he hasn't chosen to reply.

I'd be interested to know who he got the info from, as they may be a living relative, and they may be able to clarify a couple of points, such as the year he went to Moscow, his children and where he was in 1921. I haven't located any of the family in 1921.

James Bond might be my imagination running wild!! But, always say you never know. At least I now know what he was doing out there.

Thanks anyway. Regards, Eric.

According to his record Alfred Jnr. was born 1909 Salford.
Alice was born 1911 Moscow so obviously went between
those dates.
The author states that there was another daughter Ann born after
1917 in the UK but there are no other births for this couple registered in the UK
& there is no Ann with the rest of the family in 1939.
So one would have to conclude that the daughter referred to who had the
photos & notes was Alice who according to the author never married.
I would suggest if that's the case Alfred Jnr. has deposited them with a
a local archive.

I've only found 2 children...Alfred born Salford & Alice born Moscow which makes me wonder where the Ann comes from or even where the info on the children has come from.

I can understand Alice getting some details muddled over the years. I think we've all been guilty of that. My memories of tales that my grandfather told me in my younger days got slightly distorted over the years, but I never got my Brother's name wrong.

Sadly, Alice died some years back without any offspring so that's a dead end.

Not to worry. Thanks for your interest. Regards, Eric.
