I will ask the question again:  How do you know her maiden name?

With regard to Rebecca's maiden name it is information that has been passed down through the family but there is speculation that they never did marry.  The various census's show she was indexed as a wife.

Ancestry family trees also show that Rebecca Cotterell's spouse was John Swain.

We know she came from Shropshire and near to the Welsh borders and we also know that he came from Montgomeryshire.

BUT there does not seem to be a marriage.

Unless the Ancestry trees have documentary proof of her maiden name, it's probably best to ignore them?!

Once an error gets into 1 tree, it gets copied ad infinitum across many trees!

Essentially, you know her name was Rebecca, but there is no positive proof of her maiden name?
