I’m not sure if there might be two Moses Hayballs involved here born around the same time in the same place, are we sure of which one end up in Utah? Or did both end up in Utah? (Edit it looks like someone here confirmed there was two born around the same time)

I have Moses marrying Sarah Littlejohns in 1857 in St Helier. I can’t find anything for Sarah after this date. Father is James Hayball - occupation Gardener

In 1860 there is also a death of Mary Ann Hayball in St Helier (she was also born in1860) - parents Moses Hayball and Mary Ann Quarm

Funnily enough many of the Quarm family from St Helier also end up in Utah.

Are we sure we are not mixing up the two Moses born around the same time here. Did both go go Utah? There seems to be a lot of crosses of marriages so I think these two Moses may be getting mixed up here.

So I definitely think the two Moses have been mixed up here.

Moses who married Sarah Coombes appears to be a labourer/lace manufacturer I believe he is the son of Philip and I don’t believe he is the one who ends up in St Helier.

Moses who ends up in St Helier (the gardener) and son of James married Maria Hawker he is with her in 1841 in St Helier. When she dies sometime in St Helier he then marries Dorcas Thomas and lastly Sarah Littlejohns. Although I haven’t been able to confirm if he also married Mary Ann Quarm in St Helier (there is a child born 1860 and died 1860 names Mary Ann Hayball to Moses Hayball and Mary Ann Quarm). I think this Mary Ann Quarm may be the  daughter of Robert Quarm and Sarah Temperance Littlejohns who also ends up in Utah and dies shortly after her arrival.

It does look possible that both Moses (son of Philip and son of James) maybe ended up in Utah as there is a death in 1867 and a death in 1876.

I think the 1867 one is likely son of James and 1876 looking at age is likely son of Philip.

The Moses who goes to St Helier appeared to use a middle name Cook at one point.

This would explain the additional marriages in Utah as it’s actually both Moses that appear to be there around the same time. They are most likely cousins or close relatives at least.

I am not related to the Hayball family, but am descended from the Littlejohns family I mentioned hence my interest.

I’ve just replied above you, I found this thread after posting my post you have linked to above  - I believe there is a connection. But I think two Moses born around the same time have been mixed up in this thread. One went to St Helier and one didn’t.

I am interested in the One who went to St Helier and particular Sarah Littlejohns and Mary Ann Quarm

i think the two Moses Hayballs of Chard were first cousins. The one that went to Jersey married as Moses Cook Hayball s/o James . So that sorts him out. The Moses son of Philip went to USA it seems.

Berks / Oxon: Eltham, Annetts, Wiltshire (surname not county), Hawkins, Pembroke, Partridge
Dorset / Hants: Derham, Stride, Purkiss, Sibley
Yorkshire: Pottage, Carr, Blackburn, Depledge
Sussex: Goodyer, Christopher, Trevatt
Lanark: Scott (soldier went to Jersey CI)
Jersey: Fowler, Huelin, Scott

I think both went to the US - there is one who died in 1867 and one who died in 1876 - so lots of confusing of the two. The one who married Sarah Combes didn’t go to Jersey, he is in some rest in the earlier census- when the one who married Maria Hawker is in Jersey.

I am a direct descendant of the Moses Hayball who married Sarah Coombes. I have Dna data but need to establish whether "my" Moses was the son of Philip Hayball and Ann Forsey or of James Hayball and Sarah Cook. Any help appreciated. From Clinton Mann

I am pretty sure your Moses is the son of Philip Hayball and Ann Forsey, as I believe Moses who married my ancestor Mary Ann Sarah Quarm is the son of James Hayball. This Moses connected to my tree also married Dorcas Thomas and I believe Maria Hawker
