Civil Registration in Guernsey began in 1842 - so there may not be a birth certificate?

Civil registration began in Jersey in 1842 but although it was compulsory in Guernsey from 1840 not everybody adhered to the rule. The Priaulx Library will do single look-ups for £5 with a date range of no more than 10 years.
