3rd Battalion Cheshire Regiment "D" company
« on: Saturday 01 November 14 19:06 GMT (UK) »
Hi, I am researching my wife's grandfather William Wharmby (Cpl. 10489) of "D" company 3rd battalion of the Cheshire Regiment. I know from recently released WO363-4 papers that William left Birkenhead to join the British Expeditionary Force in France on 28th November 1914. Beyond that I know little to nothing about his time in the army except the effects of time in the trenches left him crippled for life with arthritis and it ultimately led to him talking his own life some years later such was his suffering! He also suffered a shrapnel wound to the right cheek that left him with a considerable scar. He was at some time during the war transferred to the Essex Regiment (Cpl. 60218).
I would love to find out anything about the participation of the 3rd Cheshires D company and what battalion and company he could have been transferred to in the Essex regiment and what their participation was in the war.
Thanks,
Stuart Bailey

Have you considered getting in touch with the Wartime Memories Project, or doing a google search to see what museums are available for you to contact with specialist information?

or the Cheshire Military Museum?
