Hi Tara
Iris mother was Hesther Elizabeth Sadler from Ireland ,her father was Horatio Fredrick Walton ,we cant find marrage cert for this
Hesther Elizabeth Sadler second husband was Charles Seth Burden  from Melksham Wilts who was in the  Warwicks reg no 5433 also RGR no 6361 Rifleman , we have found them in the 1911 cencus we do know they went to Malta, this may be the reason we cant find them in 1901 cencus.
Kind Regards Robert

I'm confused though because Horatio appears to be still alive in 1911  ???

Wow, she sounds like a great lady.

So, just as a matter of interest, does Iris' marriage cert say that her father was called Horatio ?

Does the Iris Walton birth cert match up ie Mum's name Sadler ?

It's one of the most confusing trees that I can see as NOTHING seems to add up.

Elizabeth that was married to Horatio does not seem to add up to the Elizabeth that married Charles  ???

Does her marriage to Charles state that she was a widow or a spinster ?

Sorry, HA you only asked was Iris in Ireland in 1901 and here I am picking holes in your tree !

The short answer is that NO I can't see any trace of the family here in 1901 ~ as you suspected yourself it looks like they were most likely in Malta.

If you need any other help please let me know !

Tara

HA  ;D

Don't mind me Robert ~

I was convinced that Iris was the daughter of Joseph & Elizabeth Walton.

BUT I take it that Iris' marriage cert said that her father was Horatio ~ a retired / deceased naval engineer.

IF it DID indeed say this, then I suppose all the rest is a tangled web prior to Elizabeth leaving Horatio for some reason and starting a new life with Charles.
