In the 1981 census they live in 2 Cheyney Rock House, sheerness with Williams mothers (Mary Ann , aged 24) parents
Mary A (aged 48) and John (aged 50, works as a labourer in a boat store).
His father William (aged 36) works as a sailmaker.
According to the 1901 census his mother is now a widow and he also has a broher John aged 6.

I have not carried out any family research for a few years, but I think I can help with this.
Mary Ann Margaret Church was the eldest daughter of John and Mary Ann Caroline Carnine (nee Davison) born in Sheerness in 1864.
She claimed to be an actress when she had a daughter in October 1885 at Steyning Sussex, who was named Robina Alberta Dalton Carnine. The father was not named but the baby's name may be a clue to the father's (a puzzle I have never solved.)
In 1887 she had another daughter Victoria Roma Carnine at Holborn Viaduct London.
The Victoria Carnine listed in the 1891 census is Mary Ann Margaret's daughter. I assume that her first daughter had died, although I have not found any record.
Ref. the 1891 census
I have a photo of Cheyney Rock House. It was a large house which at this time was divided into apartments.

John Carnine was a labourer in a coal store, which was close to Cheyney Rock House.
In this census he says he was born in Dublin, 1881 census he said he was born in Belfast, and another census said he was born in Sheerness.
Ninnie was Winnifred (known as Winnie) and married a London Policeman.
Ernest Carnine was born in Sheerness (I have met his son)
My grandmother was Ada Amelia Carnine, a younger sister to Mary Ann Margaret. At the time of this census she was in service and living with another family.
I am interested in the later life of Mary Ann Church. There are stories of one of my grandmother's sisters going to Australia and coming back to visit England in about 1917 with a prominent Australian politicion.

I have reason to believe that the Carnine family come from County Cork in Ireland.
Have Carnine family tree if you are interested.
Hope the above is of interest

After a lot of searching I have found out the following:
Mary Ann Margaret Carnine (b1864) married William Henry Church (b1855 Great Gamerith, Norfolk) in 1891. William Henry died in 1901, in Sheerness.

Mary Ann Margaret Church (nee Carnine) remarried James Fison James, also in 1901 and moved to Australia.

On Mary Ann Margaret James' Death Certificate she has the following children listed:
Church Children
William James - AKA William Henry b.1891 Sheerness, kent (My G.Grandfather)
Dorothy M.A.V. b. 1891 Sheerness, Kent (known in our family as "Auntie Vic"
John Tooley b 1892 Sheerness, Kent
Ernest valentine b1898 Sheerness, Kent

She also has two children registered from her marriage to James James:
David A
Ruby M

My dad recalls a "Uncle David" and "Aunty Vic".
According to family tales Mary Ann margaret used the name "Matilda Carlisle" when she was acting. I have a lot more info if you're interested!

Hi Breffney,

Aunty Vic was probably Victoria Roma Polsen (nee Carnine b.1887, Mary Ann's 2nd child) who came out to Australia as well and from whom I am descended. Would love to hear any extra information you have on Mary Ann! Victoria has a 'Robert Dalzell' listed as her father on her death certificate.
