Identification of Royal Field Artillery Soldier & Great Aunts Fiance
« on: Friday 07 November 14 02:42 GMT (UK) »
Trying to identify my Great Aunts Fiancé and ensure he has received proper recognition. Unfortunately we have no name or service number but from a photograph we belief he served in the Royal Field Artillery and was based  and trained out of the Piershill Barracks Edinburgh. Although not certain we believe he came from the parish of Arngask,  Peebleshire, Scotland. as that is where my Great Aunts family came from. Any help gratefully appreciated. Sincere Thanks and Regards David Abrahams Qld Australia.

The Parish of Arngask -

Quote
the parish lay within the three counties of Fife, Kinross and Perth.

I've never heard of Arngask in Peeblesshire  :-\

Zapcon Obviously there is some confusion as the parish mentioned is in Perthshire not Peebleshire. I would suggest using you aunts name and check the newest census record probably 1901 or 1911 to find exactly where she lived and maybe get lucky if he was visiting etc on census day.
I have the Peebleshire Roll of Honour of those serving and there ar 3 NEILs all from Innerleithen but no others in the county. There ar no Neil deaths in the book of Remembrance for Tweedale  .
In those days engagements were serious and probably listed in the local newspaper only if you can find out where!!
Hope that helps.
