Quinn from Cork

I am trying to find out if my grandfather David Gordon Quinn was actually from County Cork.  My mother relates that this was all he told her about where he was born.  He would have been born in 1888 or 1889, and he then moved to Scotland (Rutherglen) when he was five yrs old.  Any assistance with birth records would be appreciated.
