The 1881 census has Catherines husband as Thomas (not Philip as the baptism I found)

They are in Barracks in Chichester

Thomas Harris   40
Catherine Harris   28
Elizth.Jane Harris 7
Geo.J. Harris 5
James B. Harris   3
Caroline M. Harris 2
Ellen J Harris 3 months

£10 I believe.

But if you want to know what the connection between Kathleen and Phyllis is, as this Probate index entry is the only lead, then getting a copy of the Will is the only way to proceed.

Thanks Liz, yes I will take  a punt and get copy of will. You may guess next question! Where do I go to get it?

Told you I was a novice-sorry.

The HMCTS website has recently changed but the form you need is this

http://hmctsformfinder.justice.gov.uk/courtfinder/forms/pa001s-eng.pdf

send the form and a £10 cheque to HMCTS at Leeds

Deliveries are up in the air at the moment as part of the wills service after 1996 has gone online and they are inundated with requests.

Even visiting HMCTS at the Strand is no better, lead times the same as doing postal or online applications.

Hi Dawn,

Decided the only way to find out about Phyllis is hopefully the will.  Looked on site  to order copy but I don't have a cheque book :'( cant remember the last time I had occasion to use one! ) I also see it will take 4 weeks to get a copy of will, that's  a long time for an impatient person like me to wait!  I am searching now for someone at work who has a cheque book!!!  I got a copy of a recent will and it only took 10 days that's more like it!

I have been racking my brains and looking at research to see if there could be a family connection between Kathleen and Harris family. None is immediately apparent but I cannot rule that out.

This research can be so frustrating that is why I leave it for a while and then come back to it.

Four weeks isnt so long in the big scheme of things. Neither Phyllis nor Kathleen will be going anywhere.
By all means put research to one side for a bit and come back to it - but if you order the Will before you do that, then by the time you come back to it the 4 weeks will have flown by and you will have the Will.
Otherwise when you come back to it, the situation will be just the same,  you will be no nearer knowing the answer, and even more time will have passed.
Family History research is not an instant thing (says one who has been at it for about 30 years, and still finds new leads sometimes on something that has been dormant for years), sometimes it is worth waiting to get the vital piece of evidence to move us on. SOmetimes that means waiting for an ordered document to arrive (as in your case) or sometimes it means waiting till one is free to go and visit a Record Office (that might be months) but unless we wait, then we never do the things at all, and then we never make progress!
Sorry, going all profound.

PS Do they accept Postal orders?
