Starting research into family Steel history
« on: Thursday 13 November 14 23:04 GMT (UK) »
I'm starting to research my family and believe that some members in US and UK may have previously tried the same. My father was William Steel b 5.02.21 d 4.04.04 my mother was Kath S nee Murphy b 04.11.26 d 22.06.11. Dads father was Neil Steel who lived in Glasgow b 9.04.1893 his mother was Jeanie Airston S nee Reid b 10.03.1891.
my great grandfather was William Steel b circa 1859 his wife was Elizabeth Ann Steel nee rogerson b 1893 in Wigtown Cumbria. My grand mothers parents were George Reid a carter b circa 1850s and Elizabeth Ann R nee McGregor b around the same time.
I'd also like to hear from anyone who knows of members, past and present, who might be related to Mary Elizabeth Murphy nee Whomand who was married to Christopher Murphy late of Aughton in Lancashire and who was born circa 1898 and died 8.05.95. Her family is believed to have originated in Scotland.

Thanks again Suz. I was aware of the Scottish connection, something my nan was quite proud of and why my dad [from Glasgow] was so quickly accepted into the family. More interestingly is that my wife lived in Boundary Lane between 1956 and 1958 and remembers the houses and street vividly - an advantage of getting that bit older!
