This aircraft, coded HW-O, took off from Grimsby at 22.59 on the night of 28 Jun 1943. It was intercepted and shot down by Major Heinrich Wohlers of 1NJG, crashing at 02.17 hrs, 29 Jun.

Other crew members were H W G Vickers, M Riley, E W Evans (PoW), R Winn, W W Hill (killed) and J H Davies (killed).

I realise that this does nothing at the moment to further your search but I figure the more info you have, the better your chances. I'll see whether I can find any more on crew members' families and get back to you.

Keith

On FreeBMD there is a possible candidate:

Birth: Alan J Thomas, Jun qtr 1921 W Bromwich vol 6b p1686 (mother's maiden name Hook)

Marriage: George F Thomas, Jun qtr 1918, Kings Norton, vol 6d p131 (on same page Edith L L Hook)

FreeBMD shows one other child born in W Bromwich to parents Thomas and Hook born in Mar qtr 1925.  Using first name and initial I found four possible marriages in Warwickshire for this child between 1940 and 1960.

I have sent you a pm with additional details.

All the best
Philip
