Mary Danner - Nice, France

I've had a look but can't see anything to fit. checking records again mary is widowed between 1930 and 1935, and her husband was called Otto.

I can only see basic details, but Mary Laughlin (she must have married John Laughlin previously) married Otto Danner in Australia in 1911.

Otto was a german born british citizen, born in 1841. On the 1901 census he is a widower, a clerk to a shipping merchant.

I have found Otto coming into the UK from Australia a number of times, and in 1913 he has a "Mrs Darner" aged 43 with him.  They embarked in Algiers and are listed as german citizens

Danner, Otto, spouse of Mary Scorer, d. 16 Feb (entry 700).

Original death certificate shows:
Otto Danner passed away at his residence, 9 Rue de Rivoli.  He was born Mulhouse, Haut Rhin (close to the border with Germany), 25 Feb, 1841.  Nationality English. Names of parents not known. Spouse Mary Scorer.

Meanwhile, this may be your Mary (her parents were b. England, right?) in 1900, with husband John M Laughlin:

Marriage can be found in NSW (district St Leonard).

It would be very interesting to see how Mary lists her marital status - and try to figure out how she got to Australia!

Otto Danner's first marriage to Sarah Watton in 1874 shows his father as Gottfried Danner, a bookseller. he desn;t appear on UK censuses until 1871 (when he is already claiming to be married to Sarah) and on later ones he is noted as a naturalised British citizen

On the National Archives UK website they have a naturalisation certificate of an Otto Danner from Germany, resident in Manchester issued on 30th July 1886.
