Coe family
« on: Tuesday 18 November 14 04:58 GMT (UK) »
Apparently my (Australian) grandfather visited relatives in Cornwall when he was on leave during World War I, with the surname Coe.

My Mum told me this and I'm afraid that's all I have to go on. My grandfather was Victor de Vaux Dorset Fuller. I've been trying to find the Coe relationship but so far I haven't found anything.

I've found my Fuller links in Wells, Somerset. One line I haven't followed through yet is Hannah Fuller who married Thomas Grey 18/3/1857 Wakefield All Saints Yorkshire.

Is Coe a common name in Cornwall?

It is a bit hard to help when we dont know exactly what lines you have already followed without success, no point in going over old ground.

Who were Victors parents? What siblings did each of them have? Did any of these (Victors aunts and uncles) marry a Coe?   What children did each of these siblings have? (ie Victors cousins) and did any of the girl cousins marry a Coe?  Once all those lines have been explored fully, then you need to think further afield - have you reached that point? Next step will be to look at all four granparents and go through the same process.

I see this was in WW1 era. Have you looked at 1911 census and seen what Coes are around in Cornwall then , just a few years earlier? (Sorry look ups not allowed)

Is Coe a common name in Cornwall?

Cornwall OPC Database is showing 13 Coe baptisms between 1800 and 1900 - if that's anything to go by! ;D

Thanks KGarrad. Sorry I haven't been on this website for so long - well since November last year! I still haven't found any Coe relatives, but if I keep digging I just might....
