Can we roll back a bit? How are Mary's parents' names known? How was her baptism proven?

You refer to Mary as Harry Moffitt's great grandmother in the first post, and then refer to "Mary's daughter and Harry's mother, Rebecca Susanna Hannah MINNS"

so was Mary the grandmother or great grandmother?

Without knowing where Mary was married (so I presume no previous knowledge of the father's name on the certificate) and if she hasn't been found in the 1851 census and then died before the next census, how do you know that her father was John?

There are at least 4 possible hits for misspelt Mary Bri**y in Nottinghamshire in 1841. Before looking at any of them in greater detail I'd appreciate some guidance about how you've managed to confirm the info you have so far.

Thanks :)

My apologies, the first post should have read Mary BRIERLY *grandmother* of Harry MOFFITT.

Please, there's no need to look at census records, as that has already been done. Mary is not in the 1841 census with her family. The other Mary B's (various spellings) in C1841 have already been looked at. Mary is in C1851 married with her family (see below).
Neither am I asking to look for anything other than the MI's for John B of Selston.

My request has been please, simply for the MIs of John BRIERLY/BRIERLEY Selston, and again, my apologies for any errors.

Thanks to all for your help.

The only other baptism found for a Mary BRIERLY in the Selston registers is in 1810.

Hi Kah...

I tried to see if there are MI's for Selston St Helen's at the local studies library, but without success.

The Nottinghamshire family history society have recorded quite a few parish MI's but Selston doesn't seem to have been recorded.

The  "Monumental Inscriptions of the British Isles" were recorded by the Latter Day Saints and can be ordered to view at one of their family history centres. https://familysearch.org/locations/centerlocator.

I don't know how far you have got re following the children of John & Ann?

I had a look and of the ten ? children, I can account for nine and who they married, I haven't managed to locate Ann (born abt 1838) after 1851.

The first six children were baptised at Selston but did you know that their son James was born 17th Oct 1832 and baptised at the Wesleyan Baptist Chapel, Ilkeston - 30th January 1833 - father = John Brierley of Eastwood, labourer and his wife Ann who was the daughter of Job and Mary SHAWCROFT.

I will leave it there for now, please let me know if you need the information on locating the other children, census details, marriages etc. Although I don't know where Mary is in 1841.
